Thoughout most of the United States you will want to plant strawberries as early in the spring as the ground can be worked. In many areas this means March and April, though in much of the south that means mid to late February. The general idea is that you want your plants well established before the weather starts to turn hot.

Get good quality starter plants from a reliable nursury you trust. Ask your provider for recommendations on types and varieties for your area. It is best to apply 1 pound of 10-10-10 ftertilizer per hundred feet of garden space.

Plant strawberries so that the soil just barely covers the tops of the roots. After planting, be sure and water the plants. The most difficult time for strawberries is just after planting before the young plants have an opportunity to establish a good root system. Follow this advice and you will soon have strong healthy plants.
