Winona--(Earliglow x MNUS 52) This brand new variety for 1997 has produced large fruit and high yields in testing in Minnesota. Winona produces a large crown and is a good runner producer in matted row systems. The fruit has a well balanced flavor and is firm fleshed. It ripens late season with Lateglow. Winona shows resistance to 5 eastern races of red stele root rot and is tolerant of powdery mildew, leaf scorch, and leaf spot. Winona should be tried where winter hardiness or diseases have been a problem.
